On July 15, 1986 — only two months after its release — Run DMC's third album “Raising Hell” became the first rap album to be certified Platinum.
“Raising Hell” was the first hip-hop/rap album to peak at No. 1 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and it also peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.
The album included their popular rap and rock fusion single “Walk This Way,” which became the first rap record to hit the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In Sept. 1986, “Raising Hell” went 2X Platinum and by March 1987 it would reach 3X Platinum.
In 2016, Run DMC became the first rap group to earn a Grammy Lifetime Achievement award.
Run DMC was also first rap group to have a certified Gold record with their self-titled album in 1984.
