I can still vividly remember the day, when I first saw a post on the Relix Facebook page about a new festival in Virginia. As a Virginia resident, I am always up-to-date with current music festivals and I absolutely love the Jam bands. After losing the All good music festival in West Virginia, the East Coast was in dire need for a new music festival to take the reins and show us all a good time; In steps Peter Shapiro and David Frey with the exciting news about Interlocken Music Festival. After changing the name and other disputes, we finally got the most amazing lineup in musical history!
With Widespread Panic, Further, Trey, The string cheese incident, all of these bands together in one place and right in my backyard. I gathered up an army of my friends and we descended upon Lockn’ that first year and had the most amazing experience of our lives. The vibe and the essence of lockn’ has stayed with me over the years and I have returned every year with all of my friends. We come from all over the country and make the musical pilgrimage back to Oak Ridge.
This year I start a new career as a Special Education teacher and will be highly involved in that but I still hope to make it again to lockn’ again! Long live lockn’ and it's lockn ALUM! Let’s see what this year has to bring and bring on Phish, we been waiting for you.
