May of 1977 gets a lot of well-deserved hype from seasoned deadheads, but this show from the Palladium in NYC --on the cusp of that legendary May run -- might well be better than any of them.
The band is burning from start to finish (definitely one of my top couple of first sets ever). In particular check out the half step. Its the superlative version for me -- pretty much everything you can love about Jerry happens in this little first set gem, from burning guitar to vocals that evoke more emotion than those of anyone I've heard.
Enjoy, and LMK what you think about that half step.
