We hadn’t seen Moon Taxi since LOCKN’ 2016 and Mainland was new to us except for the song that The Peak has been playing. Brandon had his whole band with him and as I keep saying, go see them! Sure it’s fun to see him sit in with other groups (and the All Along the Watchtower cover with Moon Taxi later in the night was stellar), but his original music is great and his band is fantastic.
Mainland was a lot of fun and had that look in their eyes that you mostly get to see once when a band steps up from playing small clubs to the big stage at The Cap. It’s a good look and you can hear it in their sound.
Moon Taxi is unique in their ability to turn out pop hits that show up in commercials while still being able to jam when they want. I actually prefer their jam side but the audience was clearly there for the hits. The best moment was definitely the Hendrix cover as it gave them a well known song that they could easily jam on without losing any of their pop loving fans.
All of this was for the 14th Birthday of the best indie station around, 107.1 The Peak. May they keep going forever!
